Snow

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

So, the radar shows the snow as barely touching the southern edge of WI, yet on a very recent trip downtown, to the library, I saw snowflakes on my windshield, and when I took the dog out to go to the bathroom, I saw snowflakes in the backyard light!  LOL!  It’s actually more like snow flurries, but there seemed to be quite a few.

I also noticed that the cloud cover was thicker, even in the dark.  Earlier I was able to see the moon and now I can’t anymore.  We are supposed to get about 4-6 inches.

We went to the grocery store, so there is stuff to eat, for tomorrow, and took the overdue library books back, because if it’s gnarly out tomorrow, we wouldn’t be doing it, then!

I have to work, so it will be hard to watch it snow!  Bummer! I love to watch it snow! On the other hand, maybe we won’t be that busy!

I don’t know if there will be a snow day for us. It seems like we are on the northern edge of the storm and aren’t supposed to get as much as Milwaukee does. Kids have stuff for lunches if they are home, so that’s all that matters. We even bought ingredients for a treat, if they get stuck home, too. Now, all we do is wait.

Winter on the Way!

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Wow, we have a winter weather watch, for Thursday night, into Friday!  On the weather forecast tonight, they said we could get 4-8 inches of snow!  Also, the balmy temperatures of the past few weeks will be a thing of the past! Bummer.  It was nice not having to wear mittens and stuff!  It will be colder being outside for lunch duty, though!  :(  The kids will enjoy the snow, though!

I ordered a squall parka from Lands’ End.  It turned out to NOT have handwarmer pockets, one of my favorite features from  my current squall parka.  I was so disappointed.  So, I took it back to Sears and returned it.  Last night, I ordered a similar jacket, a Warm Up Parka, from LL Bean.  It has fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets!  I use my handwarmer pockets, all the time, when it’s cold!  I just couldn’t keep a jacket, that didn’t have them.  I hope the LL Bean jacket works out better!  I got it in Deep Raspberry.

Also, I could have gotten a Lands’ End jacket that did have the chest pockets, but I just can’t wear black, red, or magenta!  Unfortunately the pretty blue colors were all gone, or unavailable for whatever reason!

Kids had parent-teacher conferences tonight, finally!  They are all doing well and the teachers all love having them in their classes.  They do their work and don’t disrupt their classes.  Emily could participate more, but I’ve been hearing that since she started school.  It was my first view of their new cafeteria, gym and fieldhouse!  They are gorgeous!  The fieldhouse is HUGE! :-)

1. Which of the holidays that you celebrate, do you feel is the most important?
Probably Christmas and Easter, since they are important to my religious beliefs, with the birth, death and rising of Christ. They are also good times to renew ties with family we don’t see every day, too.

2. Which holiday do you most enjoy?
Christmas! I enjoy getting together with family, eating special food, going to church, getting presents, although, I enjoy seeing what everyone else gets, too.

3. Is there one holiday that your family tries to get together every year? If so, which one?
Christmas! We always make sure we get together for that one!  The other ones it isn’t quite as critical.  We have traveled enough to share holidays, that sometimes it is nice to just stay home.

4. Share one special memory from a past holiday.
Christmas meals at my SIL’s house!  Yummy.  From the appetizers to dessert, everything is so yummy and always the same.  Appetizers: Cheese, sausage and crackers, veggies and dip, chips and dip, chips and salsa, and little hotdogs in barbeque sauce:  Supper: Ham sandwiches, or just ham, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, mashed sweet potatoes, my red-green jello, and a frozen cranberry-pineapple-cool whip concoction.  Dessert:  Cookies of course with peanut blossoms, chocolate with powdered sugar, toffee squares, and cut-out cookies.

5. Name one holiday coming up, that you’re really looking forward to, and why.
Christmas!  We have lasagna on Christmas Even and an eggbake of some sort, for Christmas morning!  I also love going to church on Christmas Eve.  There is something so special about singing Silent Night, in a dark church, only illuminated by candles!

Hello world!

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

After many reinstalls and frustration, I finally have my WordPress blog up and running!  My family is complaining that I’ve been rather obsessed with this!  Maybe I can just relax for a while!  I think I’m ready for a nap.

I have a clean car, now!  Gary took it to the “good” car wash, where they vacuum and wash the inside windows.  Dogs aren’t good to cars, since they shed and make nose marks all over the windows!  LOL!  (Yeah, you tell Jasmine she can’t come along!)

We got our Christmas lights up yesterday.  Hopefully I have all the settings right, on the timers, so it all comes on automatically and shuts off automatically!

Our day started out sunny, but then became cloudy and it still is now.  I saw the temp at 56!  I don’t think it’s that warm anymore.

Christmas Lights

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Everyone is nearly ready, to turn on their Christmas lights, but most of them seem to have the discipline to wait until Thanksgiving! I was driving around, wishing more people had their lights on, tonight! After all, Thanksgiving is less than 2 days away! Just turn ‘em on! We’ll have to do a drive on Friday or Saturday, I think!

Fill in the blank time!! Have fun and have a fabulous week!! =)

1. In order to protect my computer from viruses, I use AVG anti-virus.
2. I also use Ad-Aware for protection from spyware.
3. I don’t spend nearly enough time making supper.
4. The first person I usually talk to in the morning is my daughter Emily, but the first creature I talk to, is really the dog, since I take her outside, before I get Emily and Sarah up!
5. It takes me about 15 minutes, if I don’t have to take a shower, to get ready in the morning.
6. I keep all my appointments in the morning.
7. It takes me about 2 seconds to fall asleep at night.

Things about me

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

I saw this fun meme posted over at Stacy’s blog (here). It’s called a “Get to Know Your Friends” meme/quiz, but it seems pretty holiday oriented, so I was really excited about doing it. Thanks for letting me swipe it, Stacy!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Egg nog

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa wraps presents!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Definitely colored ones!

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No

5. When do you put your decorations up?I want to start now! LOL! Maybe the kids and I will start bringing some stuff down tonight, after supper. Thanksgiving is less than a week away! What would it matter?

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Either my Christmas Eve lasagna or my SIL’s cheesy potatoes!

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Going early to church on Christmas Eve, since we had to get ready to sing in the choir and having “Santa” come, after we left. We would come home from church and my dad and grandparents would have put all the presents under the tree.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I really don’t remember. I think my sisters and I just figured it out, but I can’t remember when anymore.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Nope. We wait until Christmas morning!

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Mine would be eclectic. I have a hodge-podge of ornaments that we have picked up here and there, that we keep adding to. I have colored mini-lights and an angel that goes on the top.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? As long as we don’t get it to often, I usually love it. I do like it more, when I can just stay home and let it snow.

12. Can you ice skate? Yes, but I haven’t gone in a LONG time.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Yes, the Kitchenaid mixer I got, when I had been on my own, for a year. (1984). A close second was getting a cute little point and shoot film camera, about 10 years ago, and another one that stands out was getting an 800 MB hard drive, since the one in the computer was only 200 MB! Really, it felt like unlimited space. Now I have an 80 GB drive!

14. What?s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with family and remembering the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Christmas cookies!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Having every Christmas be the same, at my SIL’s house!

17. What tops your tree? An angel in a pink dress

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Giving.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?Hark the Herald Angels Sing

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?? Yum, but I don’t want to eat too many of them.

Dreary Wednesday

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

The day started out sunny enough, but by early afternoon, the clouds took over and we never saw the sun again! November has sure been dreary the last few days, but I think November often is cloudy.

I finally got my hair cut! I probably should have gone in 2 weeks ago! It’s nice not having hair in my face again!

Tuesday Night

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

I think the kids are trying to see how many times I can drive to their high school, in one day! LOL! I dropped them off at school, picked them up separately, because Sarah needed to make up a physics lab, and Emily left at the normal time. Then Sarah had Pops Band, so yet one more trip there and back.

It’s time to put Christmas music, in the cd player! We brought a cartridge in the house, to fill with Christmas cds. The radio stations haven’t started playing Christmas music yet.

It was a gray and dreary day today, and yesterday! Ugh. I’m ready to see the sun again.

Well, my blog is up and running again! I just have to get the tagboard installed and I will be just like it was before!
