Brrrrrr!

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

I was just out with the dog, and didn’t have my scarf on.  My poor nose was so cold.  That wind is wicked.

Most current stats from Weather Underground:

Temp: 16.4 F/-8 C
Winds: 6.0 mph / 9 km/h from the NNW
Wind Gusts: 12mph/19km/hr

Windchill: 8 °F /
-13 °C

Unfortunately, I will have to go out to drive Sarah to band
practice, and I will have to take the dog outside, too. I just
want to stay in the house!

This week’s questions come from one of our very FAITHFUL participants (and she happens to be my mother), sherle. Thanks, Mom! =)

1. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? If so, what is your most important one?
I’m not much into resolutions, but getting more exercise and eating better, would probably be on it, if I did.
2. Easter is coming. Many Christians give up something for Lent. Do you give something up for any reason (or season)? What is it this year?
In church, we don’t sing any alleluias, during Lent.  So, when I play my piano, I try not to, at home, too.  It makes Easter more sweet to do that.
3. Do you watch the Super Bowl? If so, do you watch it with a group? If not, what do you do while the game is on? Anything special?
Super Bowl, smooperbowl.  Bleah.  It’s not really my thing.  Two years in a row, the Green Bay Packers were in it (about 10 years ago), and then we ate supper at a friend’s house and watched the game.  If the Packers aren’t in it, I really don’t care.  If I watch at all, it will be at home with the kids, and just to see the commercials.
4. Would you miss Monday Madness if it stopped permanently?
Yes, I would, but if it did stop, I guess I would find another meme to do.
5. Name at least one theme for MM questions. Share at least one question for that theme.
I like to write about books, since I love to read.  One of the blogs I read, has already read 5 books, since the beginning of the year and I’ve only read one!  My question would be, “Who’s your favorite author?”

What is something ‘new’ you have planned for the coming year? A vacation? A new craft? A new crop you are experimenting with? Are you moving? Write a post about your hopes or fears about it.

Hmmm.  We haven’t really settled on a vacation destination yet.  My 14yo wants to go to Kentucky to see horse-racing stuff.  DH mentioned once that he would like to go to Springfield, IL.  I know the 17 yo would like to go to Utah to see Bryce Canyon and the Arches.  We need to have a family conference and get it decided.  In 2005, we went to Niagara Falls and last year we we to South Dakota, so I’ve got my 2 big destinations out of the way and don’t really care as much, this year.

What is new, is that my 17 is graduating from high school, in the spring, and starting college in the fall!  That will be a new experience having one child on her way out of the nest. In some ways  I’m excited about her going to college and part of me is sad, too.  She is going to nursing and loves science.  I loved the science classes that went with nursing and wish I could take them again, to do the experiments again!  I’ll be jealous that she gets to do them and I don’t! When going to the preview days, I could remember being in college myself and it made me sort of want to do it again!  LOL!

For a new “crop,” I purchased some hyacinths, pink daffodils and an assortment of tulips, from Dutch Gardens, and I’m eagerly awaiting their blooming, in the spring!  I had some hyacinths by my back porch, but one year, they started growing in a warm period in February and of course it got cold again and they never really came back again. :(  So, every year I kept meaning to plant more bulbs, but this year I actually did it!  So, I can’t wait to see them!  We had a warm December and I was worried they would sprout, but I don’t think anything did.  Now, we have snow cover and it’s colder, so that’s a good thing.

Now updated to 2.1 “Ella!”

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Wow, another new version!  It didn’t take me long to get it updated.  I updated my guestbook tonight, too, to a newer version.  Just had to check it out.

Gravatar is supposed to be back, in February!  I can’t wait.  My gravatar image is still pumpkins, from October.  When I wanted to change it to something more Christmas-like, then Gravatar was done!  So, it’s still stuck in a fall time warp!

So, no time for the State of the Union address tonight.  I was too busy on the computer.  :)

Monday Madness 1-22-07

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

I hope everyone’s new year is going well. I had planned on getting back to Monday Madness on New Year’s Day, but obviously I haven’t been posting. I apologize and hope you still play!

1. Did you make any resolutions this year?
I don’t usually bother with resolutions.  That means I’d have to try to stick to it!
2. If so, which one do you think you’ll really stick to? If not, is there something you’re going to try harder to accomplish?
I really should make an effort to exercise more and walk my dog more.  They really do go hand-in-hand!  The kids and I did walk along the beach this past Saturday, at the state park, with the dog!  That was fun, because the beach looks a lot different in the winter, than it does in the summer.
3. Do you have a fear of any small rodents/insects/etc? If so, please share.
I don’t like big spiders.  The little bitty ones that share my basement with me, don’t bother me.  I had a mouse fall down to the floor of the basement, from the ceiling and I did shriek a little bit, because it was an unexpected thing, not because I’m scared of mice.  The shriek was enough to bring the dog down by me, and then, within a few minutes, she had taken care of the mouse.  Who knew that dogs were good mousers, too?
4. Share something exciting that’s going on in your life.
Exciting?  I don’t think anything’s going on, that’s exciting.  I have a daughter about to graduate from high school, in the spring though and she starts college in the fall.  So, we have some big changes coming up!  Oh, she’s 17 and will be 18 in August.  She bought Forever in Blue, the 4th Summer of the Sisterhood, and the saleslady at the bookstore was worried about her reading the passage where a girl possibly is pregnant.  Oh please.  Even in the first book, Bridget was trying to hit on the soccer coach.  I don’t need help parenting my kids, thank you very much.  In just over 6 months, she is old enough to vote.  I think she can read what she pleases! (Whoops, got off on a tangent! Oh yeah, she was wearing her letterjacket with the “07″ prominently displayed in the front!)
5. Did you wonder what happened to Monday Madness these past few weeks?
Yes, I did.  I was hoping everything was okay with you!  Oh yeah, and I really missed doing it, too!  I was searching out other memes, for other days of the week to do!

…and this question comes from one of our good friends, tricia:

Do you have a favorite gameshow announcer?
I hardly ever watch gameshows, so really can’t make a decision!  LOL!

week of Jan 21: What’s Your Favorite Comfort Food?
till next time…

A big bowl of chili, with cheese and sour cream added to it!  Yummy!  I love smelling it cook, eating it, and then having it for leftovers the next day, too!

Question of the Day

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Be honest now …. do you snore? What about your bed-mate? Do they snore? What’s your remedy to get them to stop snoring?

DH definitely snores and nudging him or body-slamming him doesn’t help.  It has no effect, so if I can’t sleep, I go out on the couch.  He tells me I snore sometimes, too, but I bet it’s not as loud as him! He can snore no matter what position he is sleeping in, too!  Argh!  :(

If it were socially acceptable for you to dress for work any way you liked, what would be your typical outfit?

Well, I’m a nurse and I think I would just show up in my scrubs. I wouldn’t want any thing to spill, on my regular clothes.

Question of the Day

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

So tell us, do you write a diary as well as blogging?  If you do, why?  If you don’t, have you ever been a diary writer?

I kept a diary as a kid.  I was pretty good at keeping up with it!  When I got into college, it wasn’t a diary anymore, but just a notebook, that I wrote my thoughts into.  I didn’t have a computer in college, so no blogs then!  LOL! I don’t have them anymore, because most of them were about the college boyfriend.  I complained about him a lot!  Maybe it’s a good thing we never got married!
