Monday Madness 4-30-07

Monday, April 30th, 2007

I know some of you aren’t particularly fond of naming your most favorite and least favorite of things, but that’s all I got this week, my friends! Thanks for playing and have a great week. (Also, I really have been sending notifications to you all; for some reason you’re not receiving them?) Just check in every Monday, won’t you? =)

1. Currently, what television commercial is your least favorite?
One from Carmax, because I’m always thinking that they are saying Carmex, which is a lip balm.  Also, it’s about cars and really boring.
2. And which commercial is your most favorite?
One with dogs in it, for Advantage flea control, since it had a lot of dogs in it!
3. Of the sitcoms that are on during “prime time” how many do you watch on a regular basis? Please share.
The World According to Jim, King of Queens,  and Scrubs
4. Is there a television series that you enjoy watching that is ending this season?
I used to like watching ER, but it just doesn’t have the same pull for me, anymore.  I do still watch, but would almost rather do something else.  I don’t really keep up with any other show.
5. Is there any type of program you’d like to see more of on television?
I like family sitcoms, and also I liked watching Will and Grace, and Friends.
6. Is there any type of program you’d like to see less of on television?
Cop shows (CSI, Without a Trace, Law and Order)  I’m not much of a cop/lawyer show person.  Although, whenever I started watching Law and Order, or Hill Street Blues, I could never tear myself away.  Go figure.
7. Is there a series that is no longer aired that you wish would come back?
Thursday nights on NBC, back in the 80s!  Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers and Night Court!  LOL!  I was there, EVERY Thursday night!
8. Do you watch re-runs of anything on television?
Becker, Simpsons, Mad About You, The Nanny, and Scrubs

80 Degrees Outside!

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Weather Underground says 80.5.  My indoor/outdoor thermometer says 79.4!  They are really pretty close!  We mowed our lawn, for the first time today.  It needed it so bad, but the weather, had been so cold and rainy, no one would have wanted to mow lawn!  It’s gorgeous outside, with warm temperatures, blooming flowers and budding leaves.  It makes it easier to believe that spring is actually here!  I’m glad the grass is cut, though.  I can put that out of my head, for a few days now!

The kids might go for a bike ride.  It is a good day for one!

1. Name a song you know most (or all) of the words to.

3. Have you ever read a book more than once? Please share.
I read the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder as a kid and as an adult!
4. Share an inspirational quote with us.
The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.  ~G.K. Chesterton
5. What day of the week does (or did) your birthday fall on this year?
Monday, March 12th.
6. Have you ever bought a book or cd or movie more than once because you forgot you bought it already?
Oops. I bought something on iTunes and it turned out I already had it.  Darn it!

Finished a cotton dishcloth tonight.

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Emily’s new interest in knitting, has gotten me all fired up, too! We thought we could knit cotton dishcloths, for our secret pal project, that we are doing! So, we got some cotton yarn, which Hobby Lobby sells in many different colors, and got started. Emily’s is still a work-in-progress, but after a little ripping and some aggravation, I got mine finished today!

I have some pastel variegated yarn, sitting around the house, so now I can make another one, for me!  I love cotton dishcloths and they don’t take much time to make!

We had a beautiful day today.  Officially, we got up to 74!  I just know that late in the afternoon, I could go outside and it felt warm!  It was wonderful.  My flowers are blooming, too!  We’ll get the pics loaded up on Flickr and then link to them!

This week’s questions come from tricia…. Thanks, Tricia! Hope you all have a wonderful week ahead. Thank you all for playing. =)

1. Who do you think is cuter, the host of Survivor, or the host of Amazing Race?
You’re assuming I actually watch these shows?  LOL!  I’ve seen one episode of Amazing Race, last year, when they were in Niagara Falls and we had just been there, so it was exciting seeing familiar sites again!  I guess I would have to say AR.
2. Have you seen any movies in a theater recently?
Yup!  DH, Sarah, and I saw Wild Hogs on Saturday night!  It was hilarious!  I especially loved the little mini-movie during the credits!  I laughed so hard, I almost missed some of it!
3. Do you read manga?
Huh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga, Oh, I see.  No, I never have.
4. For people living in the US: Have you ever traveled outside of the state you were born in? For people living outside of the US: Have you ever traveled outside of your country?
I live in WI, and the last 2 years, I have really expanded my horizons, other than a trip to Mexico, when I was 15.  In 2005, we went to Niagara Falls, so my new places were a little bit of New York state, Ontario and more of Michigan than I’ve ever seen before.  In 2006, we went to South Dakota and Wyoming!  Otherwise, I’ve been in WI, MN, MI, IL, IN, PA, NY, MD, Wash DC, VA, WV, KY, OH, MO, and FL.
5. Do you have a Yahoo! 360 page?
http://360.yahoo.com/dawnk777
6. How many blogs/online diaries do you have total?

2 of those I have, just because it makes commenting on blogspot and livejournal blogs, possible.

Last night at the park

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

We went to Kohler Andrae State Park last night, at dusk, hoping to see deer!  We weren’t disappointed.  We saw about 10!  Whoa!  Sarah got a great pic of a younger deer and his/her mom!  We thought she looks pregnant, too!  We’ll have to go back later on, to see if we can get pictures of the fawns!

Looking

We also got to see a beautiful sunset, while we walked on the Creeping Juniper Nature Trail.
Beautiful end to a good day

We got to see the sunset today, but it wasn’t as pretty! Oh darn! We got sub sandwiches and still drove to a nearby park to watch it, though, and it was fun watching the lights pop out more, as the light started to fade.

My 15yo daughter taught herself to knit!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Whoa, Emily taught herself how to knit!  She presented me with a dishcloth last night, that she made herself, in secret, not even telling her sister.  She was sneaky!

Knitting Pics

It’s supposed to be the shape of Wisconsin, and then the two initals, we would put in an address W-I.

Now, she is making an Ipod sock, for her sister.  Pics available at Photobucket link, above.

She got her inspiration from Chicks with Sticks, two books about a knitting group, geared toward teenagers!

Now, that she has revealed herself, we went and bought her the proper yarn for making a dishcloth and a book of 12 dishcloth patterns!  I might make one, too!  Oooh, and the 100% cotton Sugar and Spice dishcloth yarn was only $.99, instead of $1.49!

No more snow! Argh.

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I just found this, on Weather Underground:

Statement as of 3:00 PM CDT on April 09, 2007

Winter Storm Watch in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening…

The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a Winter Storm Watch… which is in effect from Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Snow or a cold rain is expected to develop over southwest
Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon before spreading across southern Wisconsin Tuesday night. The precipitation will then last well into Wednesday.

Current indications are that mainly snow will fall north of a line from Lone Rock to Watertown to Germantown… with 6 to 8 inches of wet snow likely.

Farther south… the precipitation should fall as a cold rain or
wet snow with little or no accumulation expected. However… with temperatures hovering just above freezing it will be a close call and accumulating snow is not out of the question.

A Winter Storm Watch is issued when heavy snow is expected to accumulate to levels that will cause major impacts to Commerce and society. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts for updates and possible warnings.

———————————-

Bleah, don’t they know we are ready for spring?  I don’t want anymore snow!  I don’t want to see it.  I don’t want to shovel it.  I don’t want to drive in it.  I’m done!  Bring on the tulips!  I guess Wednesday is going to be an adventure!  I suppose I should go fill up my birdfeeder!

Windy and Cold

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Today was very windy and only in the 30’s for temperature.  Brrr.  At 1pm, the windchill was only 20.  Yet, at the school where I work, there were too many kids only in sweatshirts and spring jackets.  I don’t know how well their parents check the weather, before they send kids off to school.  Mine would have been in winter jackets.

I discovered widgets.  What a cool thing!  It was so easy to arrange the different parts of my sidebar.  I’m wondering why it took me so long to try it!  I also got my gravatar set up again.  I’ve been rather obsessed with my blog recently.

Monday Madness 4-2-07 (repost)

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

This week’s questions, once again, come right off the top of my head! If you’ve emailed me with suggestions, please be patient. I haven’t checked my email lately but will soon. I hope you all have a great week and thanks for playing Monday Madness! =)

1. Where did you go on your last vacation?
South Dakota and Devil’s Tower in eastern Wyoming.
2. Would you go there again? Why or why not?
Yes, I would like to go again, because the Black Hills are gorgeous, the Badlands scenic and Devil’s Tower was cool to see in person (since seeing it in the movie, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”)  It was cool being dwarfed by mountains!
3. How many vacations do you take in one year?
Usually just one big one.  It’s all we can afford.
4. Where would you REALLY like to go on your next vacation, if money was no issue, and how long would you stay?
I would love to see Monterey Bay in California, along with big sequoia trees.  I would love to go to Disneyworld again.   I would also like to go to Utah and see Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, The Arches, and the Grand Canyon.

For my really pie-in-the-sky vacation, I would love to go to Australia or Tuscan Italy!
5. Do you put a little money aside each week (or month) to save up for your vacation?
No, we don’t, but we probably should.
