Monday Madness 7-23-07

1. Are there any weird “food rules” you have? Feel free to list as many as you like.
I don’t really have weird food things.  I just don’t care much for olives and usually pick them off of pizza, if they are there.
2. When you were growing up, what ONE thing did your parents always remind you of, when it came to meal time (or cooking)?
Clean your plate!  LOL!  Not that there was ever much of a problem with me, in that regard.
3. Is there anyone you know whose food you won’t eat (for one reason or another)?
Olives.  I like olive oil, in my food, but just don’t like olives.  I can eat them, if they are there, but would much prefer not to.
4. Is there anything you “specialize” in cooking, that people actually ask for?
My lasagna is pretty popular, at Christmas time! Also, when I take egg bakes to church, for brunch potlucks, they ALWAYS disappear!
5. When you were growing up, what one meal do you remember as being your favorite?
Probably Thanksgiving dinner!  My mom is such a great cook!
6. Today, what is your IDEAL meal?
Anything from the restaurant with the organic/locally supplied food!  The bread is hearty.  The soup is hearty.  No matter what I have, it’s a meal that will keep me full, for a long time!  When we were on vacation, we ate in a restaurant in Duluth, MN, called the Chester Creek Cafe/At Sara’s Table.  I had Cranberry-Wild Rice French Toast with real maple syrup, from northern MN!  Yummy!

Harry Potter!

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

We are still on vacation and won’t be home until Tuesday!  So, we won’t even get our book, until Tuesday, and then I’m usually the last one to read it!  I have to stay out of the Harry Potter threads on my message boards and the newspaper articles, so I don’t find out too much information, before I get to read it!  I can’t stand it, though.  I want to read the articles and messages now!  I managed to stay fairly unspoiled, for the last book, so I know I can do it!

Day 2 of Mid-July KAL

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Here is my mid-July KAL, with day#2 finished.  It has 20 rows so far!  I love the pattern, although, I was a bit confused this morning, with having to YO over 4 stitches, but I have that down pat now! I love the three ridges and the moss-stitch in between!  Also, 3 stitch markers to mark off the 3 repeats of the pattern, has made my life much simpler.  Now, if I get distracted, I only have to count back a few stitches, instead of half the row.

Monday Madness 7-16-07

1. Do you feel that children these days are disciplined enough?
Some of them aren’t!  I work at a clinic and some kids are into everything and some kids aren’t!
2. What are your thoughts about the “time out chair?”
I think a short time-out can be effective. It separates them from the naughtiness, for a little while, anyway.
3. When YOU were a child, what form of discipline did your parents use most often?
Probably the swat on the butt! When I got older, it was more talking, though.
4. Did your parents have to constantly remind you of the guidelines they set for you, or did they just have to LOOK at you as a “gentle” reminder?
A “gentle” reminder?  LOL!  My mom’s glare could have cut through glass, but yes, it did make me behave!
5. What are your thoughts about screaming kids in public places?
Somebody needs a nap!  LOL!
6. What do you feel is the BIGGEST mistake parents make when it comes to disciplining children?
Probably making a threat and not following through, or giving in when kids whine too much.

It’s almost Friday, already!

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

I worked from 8-5pm. Then we ate supper. After that, Emily and I went to a local yarn store, for their knitting group. We came home about 9:30. Now, it’s midnight. Where does the time go? I feel like I just got up and it’s time to go to bed. This whole day just flew by!

On the other hand, I did have fun knitting and chatting with the women in the knitting group. This is the second time we’ve gone, so they don’t seem so strange anymore. Everyone oohed and aahed over the socks we are trying to make! After a few rounds on my socks, I was almost too tired to knit. I spent some time looking at a book of baby hats. They were sooo cute! I also ate a yummy blueberry muffin! LOL!

Tomorrow, I only work in the morning and then the weekend technically starts! Sweet!

Wisdom Teeth

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Sarah, 17, had her wisdom teeth out today.  She was pretty dopey and pretty numb, when she came home, but gradually got better, throughout the day.  Emily helped her get food and got her her ice pack, and even went out and got some fresh basil, from the garden, for Sarah’s tomato soup!  I had to work today, so I couldn’t do this stuff.

Sarah looked much better, when I got home from work.  I could tell she wasn’t sedated anymore!  She was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  So far, Advil has been enough, for the pain.

Hot!

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

It got up to 95 today.  It was just wicked to be outside.  The kids and I just stayed in the house today.  Jasmine didn’t want to be outside, either!  LOL!  Now, Weather Underground says 84.5F and a dewpoint of 72F.  It’s still warm, but not was hot as during the afternoon.

We got a glimpse of a baby sparrow today.  It was hatched on June 28th, after being fertilized on June 9th!  (Yes, we saw it!).

Kids were busy playing Monopoly today, since they’d had a blast playing the game, with their cousins, while they were visiting Grandma and Grandpa! They did many other things, while they were there, too, like eating at Fred and Fuzzy’s, and PC Junction, going horseback riding, taking sunset pictures on Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park, going to a play in the woods, at the American Folklore Theater, and Hands On Art Studio! Mom said she was pooped, today! I can’t imagine why!

Anyway, I think tomorrow is going to be cooler!

July 2007 KAL

Here are some progress pics. I wasn’t as good about taking daily pictures, after Day 2. LOL!

Mammogram is normal!

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

My first mammogram and pap smear in a couple of years, both came back normal!  I’m so happy!  I can put that out of my head now, until next year!  Phew!  I got a card, after the mammogram, that said it could possibly be 7-14 business days, until I found out the results!  Today is only 4 business days, because of the weekend and the July 4th holiday.  I had the test, on June 28th!

Monday Madness 7-2-07

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Good Monday to you all! This week’s questions are all about laundry; something we all have to do (or have done). Have a great week and thank you so much for playing! =)

1. Do you do your own laundry or do you send it out?
Laundry is done by us.
2. Do you laundry at your home or a laundromat?
Fortunately, we own our house, so we can do laundry at home.
3. Are there certain articles of clothing that you need to have dry-cleaned on a regular basis?
I have one dress that needs to be dry-cleaned, and it’s expensive! Ugh.
4. How often do you do laundry? Is there a certain day of the week that you consider “laundry day?”
I do laundry whenever the mood hits me. I’ve never had a day set aside to do it!
5. Do you iron your clothes as you pull them out of the dryer or do you wait until just before you wear the clothing to iron?
I let my cotton uniform tops air dry, because it seems when I throw them into the dryer, the wrinkles get so set in, that they are hard to iron. Sometimes I iron right before I wear and sometimes I do a bunch, so I’m done.
6. Do you hang your clothes outside to dry or do you dry them in a dryer?
Both. I hung out clothes this past Saturday. I love when my sheets and jammies have been hung outside. They smell so nice.
7. Do you own things that need to be hand-washed or do you try to avoid buying things that you can’t wash in the washing machine?
I have some things that need to be hand-washed. I do have a gentle cycle on my washing machine and sometimes I use that. I think I try to avoid buying stuff that needs to be hand-washed.
