Monday Madness 8-27-07

Here are some weather-related questions…. Thank you for playing and have an awesome week! =)

1. Where you live, what kind of weather (or weather-related tragedy) do you fear the most?
Tornadoes, although I haven’t seen one, since I was 4 years old.  They always seem to happen other places, in WI.  (knock on wood)
2. What kind of weather do you MOST enjoy?
Sunny, in the 70’s, with a light breeze and low humidity.
3. What kind of weather do you LEAST like to drive in?
Rain at night, because it’s hard to see the lines on the road, in the headlights, when the road is wet.  Sleet/freezing rain, at any time.  It collects on the windshield and the windshield wipers can’t get it off.  I remember traveling once and I had to stop more than once, to scrape my windows.  Not to mention that the roads get slippery, too.  A light snow isn’t that bad to drive in, but a major storm would be hard.  I wouldn’t want to have to go too far.
4. What is the scariest weather-related experience you’ve had in your lifetime?
Probably the tornado that hit my town, when I was 4 years old.  Although, last year, I had to go to the other side of the state and drop my daughter off at horse camp.  On the way home the clouds looked really weird and my other daughter and I didn’t know if it was going to turn into a tornado or not.  We had the radio on, so we could get weather information.  It never did do anything bad, but we were nervous for a while.
5. Share a “weather picture” with us!
Here’s Jasmine cavorting on the beach, as the sun sets.

1. How many desktop computers in your home?
4, with the capability of hooking up a 5th one, if Gary has one in the house that needs fixing!  LOL!
2. How many laptops?
Just one, that was a hand-me-down when my parents got a new one!
3. What kind of internet service do you have? (i.e. phone modem, dsl, etc.)
Cable connection, for several years now.  I don’t miss dial-up!
4. Do you tend to use more than one email account regularly?
Yes, because I have the one through my isp and a gmail account that I use for my Yahoo groups.
5. Do you use email as a main source for communicating to your family and friends?
I probably use email for about half and the phone for about half.
6. What kind of computer monitor do you own (flatscreen, or other)?
I have a CRT, that I wish I could exchange for a widescreen lcd monitor, like we got for our daughter to take to college!  She has a very sweet monitor!  Although, my monitor is a Viewsonic and is a nice monitor.  It just takes up a lot of room, on my small desk!

Hot weather

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I live in Wisconsin, which is pretty much smackdab in the middle of the United States and on the northern edge of the middle.  It still gets hot here, even though we are farther north than a lot of states.  My reference point for hot, is what it is, for the weather I’ve experienced.  Yet, everytime I complain somewhere that it’s hot, people tell me their weather is hotter and I can’t possibly be hot.  Well, I’ve never been to Louisiana, Texas or Oklahoma.  Maybe I don’t know what hot is, compared to those places, but I just don’t have the point of reference (and I’m not sure I want it!)  I live next to a rather huge puddle, called Lake Michigan that makes our air pretty moist, too, even up in the 80’s on occasion (although granted that was back in the summer of 1995!)  I’m not a big fan of hot, humid weather and it makes me cranky.  I don’t like to sweat and I don’t like to sweat when I’ve hardly exerted myself.  To me, it does get hot here, okay?

Diamond Drop Lace all finished!

diamond-drop-lace.jpg

I finally finished it, but still had to tear my hair out and rip it, again today!  Argh.  The last 7 rows, though, were mistake-free, although I kept counting the stitches, so I’d know which row had the mistake, if there had been one!  Now back to my socks again!  LOL!

It is a pretty cloth, but one had to keep pretty good tabs on where you were in the pattern.  I made mistakes, even when I was by myself and without distractions!  I guess I shouldn’t be trying a lacy shawl anytime soon!

Finished Row 38 of Diamond cloth tonight.

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

I did make some mistakes tonight, but later on, I was able to fix them without doing a major rip.  I only have 9 challenging rows to go, out of the 14 that are left, so I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.  The finished portion does look nice, though.  I’ll get it finished in the next day or two, I think.

Actually, I HAVE to get it finished, so I can start reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, since Emily finished reading it today and now it’s my turn!  So far no one has divulged who dies in the book!  Phew!

I have off tomorrow, so maybe I’ll have time to knit and to read!  Knitting and reading can be done in our nice cool house, since it’s so hot and humid outside.  I’m looking forward to fall now, since I’m getting tired of summer!

Frustrated with Diamond Lace tonight

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The Diamond Drop Lace dishcloth is going to be the death of me tonight.  I was knitting for an hour and have NOTHING to show for it.  When I thought I was done, I only had 38 stitches, instead of 41, like I was supposed to have! Can you say missed a few yarnovers?  Argh.  I think I was paying too much attention to TV and not enough to my knitting.   Bleah.  So, instead of being on row 27 or so, I’m back on row 23.  Every 4 rows, it’s k1 p39 k1, so I can always go back to a purl row, and get back on the needle.  It’s too weird trying to get the lacy rows back on the needle, after ripping.  I don’t know if I’m ever going to finish that one!

Emily is doing a ballband cloth with a pink/yellow/orange variegated yarn and black.  It looks so cool!

2 Dishcloths finished this week!

I finally decided it was time to make a ballband cloth.  I kept seeing pictures and there are so many different color combinations and they look so cool! Then I found out, that not only do they look cool, the pattern is really easy to knit!  I think I should make another one now, that has yellow bricks and variegated mortar!  LOL!  The yarn was Sugar n Cream Summer Splash and SnC yellow, with #7 needles.

This is Dudley the Dolphin and was part of the August Monthly Dishcloth KAL.  It’s a cute summer dishcloth! This one was SnC Light Blue and #7 needles.

Monday Madness 8-6-07

Monday, August 6th, 2007

1. What ONE thing would you like to accomplish before the end of the day?
Getting some more knitting done, on the Diamond Drop Lace dishcloth that I’m working on.
2. What one goal would you like to attain before the end of the month?
Getting Sarah to go off to college, with a reasonable amount of supplies, so she doesn’t have to go shopping, right away.
3. Are you a “to-do list” writer? If so, do you stick to your list and cross things off as you complete them?
I’m not really a list writer.
4. In general, how organized do you feel you are?
Most of the time, not very organized.  Things creep up on me, and surprise me, all the time! I always think I have so much time to do things, but in reality, I don’t.
5. How many piles of papers/junk mail/etc. do you have laying around your house?
Way too many! How do people really keep on top of all that stuff.
6. Which ONE surface in your home do you have trouble keeping clean?
The kitchen table.  If you do clear it off, people see a clean slate and start setting stuff down again.
