Emily got in!

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Emily got her Ravelry invite last night!  She is so happy!  Sarah and I still have a long way to wait.   I have 12,234 people ahead of me and Sarah has 12,032 ahead of her.  I think by the time they invite everyone today, maybe Sarah and I will be in the 11,000’s, huh? It’s so hard to wait! Emily’s ravelry username is rainberry, by the way.

Waiting for Ravelry

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

The kids and I are still waiting (im)patiently for our Ravelry invites.  Emily is the closest, because she signed up in July.  Sarah and I are way behind her, but the numbers go down everyday!

12590 for me

12298 for Sarah

233 for Emily

Emily might get her invite today!  We all can’t wait!  At least when she gets her invite, we can all see what it looks like, even if we can’t design our pages, just yet.

Ravelry is a big knitting/crocheting community.

Mid-September KAL

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

This KAL was rather fun! It was neat making a dishcloth that was a different shape, instead of just a rectangle! It’s one that could hang on the dish soap container!

Here it is laying flat, or as flat as it can lay!  LOL!dishcloth dress on bottle

Knitting frustration

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I attempted to get farther on my sock tonight, but I’m right back where I started today.  Argh.  My decreases weren’t going evenly, because I kept forgetting if I was on a knit row, or a decrease row, because I kept dropping stitches and having to fix them.  By the time I got them fixed, I would forget what I was doing.  Plus, I misplaced my tiny crochet hook for a while and had to find it, and the PHONE kept ringing!  There were just too many distractions!  The pattern isn’t that hard, but I need to know which row I was on and which direction I was going!  After I counted my stitches and they were very assymetrical, then I also noticed a dropped stitch, that didn’t have a logical place to go!  So, that’s when I frogged everything I had done tonight.  *sob*

Emily also had a ton of homework tonight,  and it’s 10pm and she’s not done yet, so she’s crabby, too.  The poor dog, she probably doesn’t know who she should hang out with.

I need to make a quick trip to the grocery store, too, but was trying to get farther on my knitting. So, I guess I need the trip to the grocery store, now, just to clear my head a little!  I’m so done with that sock for the night, now!

Another thing, adding to my distress is watching the animals shows on Animal Planet, where they rescue the neglected pets!  I’m frustrated with people who don’t vaccinate puppies for distemper.  On two different shows tonight, a dog was injured in some way, and recovered from the injuries, only to come down with distemper and have to put to sleep, anyway.  How does a dog collar get an inch into a dog’s neck, without anyone noticing?  I don’t get it!  Oh yeah, the dog collar lady was arrested for animal cruelty.  I gave my dog some extra hugs and belly rubs tonight!

1. What was your biggest challenge this past week?
Working ALL day Monday and still having to go to Open House, in the evening.  I had hardly any downtime.
2. What was your biggest accomplishment this past week?
Finishing the heel flap, and then turning the heel, on the sock that I’m knitting!
3. What was the most exciting thing that happened in your life this past week?
We went out to eat on Saturday night and I got a Chai Green Tea Creme Brulee.  It was so good.
4. What one thing made you the happiest this past week?
Going to see Sarah, on Saturday, was nice, because her roommate was gone, so we got a little quality time with her, before we had to go home.

Knitting update 9-16-07

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

This birthday cake dishcloth was the September 2007 KAL. I used #7 needles and soft violet yarn. Emily used #6 needles and Hot Green yarn. It’s amazing how differently sized they are, isn’t it?

Dawn's birthday cloth in purple and Emily's birthday cloth in green

Woohoo! I finished the heel flap and turned the heel, on my first sock tonight! Tomorrow, I will start the gussets and get to the bottom part of the sock! I’m so excited that it looks more like a sock now! The first picture is the view from the top of the sock and the second picture is the view from the bottom. The heel part really does stick out, because it goes around my heel now, but it’s hard to see it in the picture.

I’m off to finish the Day #2 rows of the current KAL, and look up what the mid-August KAL was, because I don’t remember anymore! I don’t think I posted about it yet. I’m way behind!

Monday Madness 9-10-07

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Since around here, school has just begun again after summer vacation, my questions this week will be based on school and education… Thanks for playing and I hope you all have a great week! =)

1. Do you have children in school?
Yes!  Sarah just started college, about an hour away and Emily is a sophomore.
2. Are YOU currently in school (any level)?
No, not at all, unless you consider inservices at work, to be “school!”
3. Did you (or your children) attend a public or private school?
DH and I went public, from kindergarten through college.  The kids have done the same!  In fact, Sarah is going to the same public college that DH went to!  (He is so proud!)
4. As far as formal education, what level have you completed?
I have a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).  DH has a bachelor of science in journalism (BSJ).  He also has an Associate’s degree in art, because he went to a 2-year college, before transfering to the 4-year college. When he graduated, he was voted the SDX most outstanding journalist of the year, in 1981.  To see some pics he took today, go here. His name is Gary.
5. Do you, or did you have loans out for your (or your children’s) education?
DH had no loans.  Parents and jobs, helped him pay for college.  I had about $3000 in loans,  when I was done, in 1983, but they are LONG paid for! I also worked and my parents helped a little bit.  We had enough to pay for Sarah’s first year in college, but might need loans in the future.  We will have one year with 2 in college!  Yikes!
6. What are your thoughts on the cost of tuition for colleges and universities?
I wish Sarah could pay the costs, that DH and I paid, in the late 70’s to early 80’s!  LOL!  Yeah, right.  Although, in 1980-ish, I did have to buy $300 worth of books, when I was admitted to the actual nursing program.  I was warned that it was that expensive and to bring a friend to help me carry it all!  (yes, it was that many books!)  My Luckman-Sorenson basic nursing text, was 4-inches thick and heavy.  The pediatric text was almost as big!  Those were just two.  I lost the L-S med-surg text to floodwaters in my basement, almost 10 years ago.   :(   Although, I don’t think it had anything about AIDS or universal precautions, so even in 1998, it probably was a tad outdated.

Finished Harry Potter yesterday

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

I guess it’s after midnight, so that makes it yesterday!  LOL!  I finished it in the morning, though! I was rather consumed with reading, over the past few days, trying to get it finished before Sarah went off to college.  I enjoyed the book and was pleased with how it turned out, but I can’t wait for the Encyclopedia to come out, so we can follow up on more characters!  The suspense in the whole book kept me on the edge of my seat!  I think I neglected everything else in my house, because I only wanted to read!
