Pumpkins

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

emily-mom-pumpkins-07.jpgEmily and I carved our pumpkins tonight, after a trip to the library and a trip to the grocery store. She did the cat, on the left and I did a traditional jack-o-lantern face. Then it took us a while to figure out the best way to take a picture. We had to look on the internet, to figure out how to use the self-timer. A TV tray with a book served well, in the absence of a tripod. Then we figured out we had to move the music, from the rack on the piano and cover up the piano keys. It was a learning process. So, we are all ready for trick-or-treat now, even though we hardly get any kids.

I finished the 4th out of 5 dishcloths tonight! Yay! I can’t wait to get the 5th one started, because it’s in bright colors. I’ll take pictures tomorrow. I’ve just run out of day and I’d like to knit a little more yet.

Mid-October KAL Day 2

Well, I started over and turned a P4, K2 into a K4, P2 because I thought it looked better.  It will be interesting to see Andi’s cloth, when we are all done.  I’m not quite sure which side is the right side, though!  I think it looks pretty cool, either way.   I did all 18 rows today, so I didn’t have time to work on my hat.  Maybe tomorrow.

It won’t be long now! I can’t wait! Currently on my needles is a baby hat! I had a few problems with row 10, but it was because the whole pattern hadn’t printed, when I printed it, since it got cut off. With a new printout and the entire pattern at my disposal, it’s going much better. This is for someone in my knitting group who is taking hats for orphan’s in Mexico!

The new KAL starts Tuesday and I can’t wait for that. Emily and I got some Stripes yarn, from Janet, in the Yahoo group and we are both going to use that, for the KAL. Thanks, Janet!

End of Day 5

Here’s my October KAL cloth, after Day 5’s rows!  I know now, that it’s a fireman’s helmet and axe, and it’s actually upside-down!  LOL!  I’ll get it the right way, after I finish Day 6 and get it off the needles!  I can see the fireman’s helmet, even upside-down, now that I know!   I think Emily and I should give these to two women we know, who have husbands who used to be firemen!

Ballbands

These are for some lucky people, a few months into the future.  I don’t want to say yet, who they are for, though!  LOL!  Christmas isn’t that far away!  They are certain colors for who the people are and what they like, though!  I have to make 5 total and just started the 3rd one!  I’m having a blast! The ballband is an easy pattern and they are going together quickly!  For the two after the one I’m working on, one will be in Green Bay Packer colors of green and yellow and the last one will be black for the mortar and a hot pink/hot orange variegated for the bricks.  The one I’m making now, I decided to just make as one color yarn and it’s varied between tan and white.

October KAL - WIP

red dishcloth

red dishcloth

I still have no idea what the picture is!  One part looks like an arrow or ace of spades, but I don’t know if that is what it is supposed to be.  I’m eagerly awaiting today’s rows, so I can continue on!  The dishcloth is on short needles, because one day when I wanted needles, that was all I could find, in the size that I needed.  It’s less stress on my arms, to knit with the shorter needles.

My ravelry number is getting smaller everyday!  Yay!

We had a beautiful day today, with temps in the 70’s, sunshine and no humidity!

Knitting frustration

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I attempted to get farther on my sock tonight, but I’m right back where I started today.  Argh.  My decreases weren’t going evenly, because I kept forgetting if I was on a knit row, or a decrease row, because I kept dropping stitches and having to fix them.  By the time I got them fixed, I would forget what I was doing.  Plus, I misplaced my tiny crochet hook for a while and had to find it, and the PHONE kept ringing!  There were just too many distractions!  The pattern isn’t that hard, but I need to know which row I was on and which direction I was going!  After I counted my stitches and they were very assymetrical, then I also noticed a dropped stitch, that didn’t have a logical place to go!  So, that’s when I frogged everything I had done tonight.  *sob*

Emily also had a ton of homework tonight,  and it’s 10pm and she’s not done yet, so she’s crabby, too.  The poor dog, she probably doesn’t know who she should hang out with.

I need to make a quick trip to the grocery store, too, but was trying to get farther on my knitting. So, I guess I need the trip to the grocery store, now, just to clear my head a little!  I’m so done with that sock for the night, now!

Another thing, adding to my distress is watching the animals shows on Animal Planet, where they rescue the neglected pets!  I’m frustrated with people who don’t vaccinate puppies for distemper.  On two different shows tonight, a dog was injured in some way, and recovered from the injuries, only to come down with distemper and have to put to sleep, anyway.  How does a dog collar get an inch into a dog’s neck, without anyone noticing?  I don’t get it!  Oh yeah, the dog collar lady was arrested for animal cruelty.  I gave my dog some extra hugs and belly rubs tonight!

Knitting update 9-16-07

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

This birthday cake dishcloth was the September 2007 KAL. I used #7 needles and soft violet yarn. Emily used #6 needles and Hot Green yarn. It’s amazing how differently sized they are, isn’t it?

Dawn's birthday cloth in purple and Emily's birthday cloth in green

Woohoo! I finished the heel flap and turned the heel, on my first sock tonight! Tomorrow, I will start the gussets and get to the bottom part of the sock! I’m so excited that it looks more like a sock now! The first picture is the view from the top of the sock and the second picture is the view from the bottom. The heel part really does stick out, because it goes around my heel now, but it’s hard to see it in the picture.

Sock, from the top

I’m off to finish the Day #2 rows of the current KAL, and look up what the mid-August KAL was, because I don’t remember anymore! I don’t think I posted about it yet. I’m way behind!

Frustrated with Diamond Lace tonight

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The Diamond Drop Lace dishcloth is going to be the death of me tonight.  I was knitting for an hour and have NOTHING to show for it.  When I thought I was done, I only had 38 stitches, instead of 41, like I was supposed to have! Can you say missed a few yarnovers?  Argh.  I think I was paying too much attention to TV and not enough to my knitting.   Bleah.  So, instead of being on row 27 or so, I’m back on row 23.  Every 4 rows, it’s k1 p39 k1, so I can always go back to a purl row, and get back on the needle.  It’s too weird trying to get the lacy rows back on the needle, after ripping.  I don’t know if I’m ever going to finish that one!

Emily is doing a ballband cloth with a pink/yellow/orange variegated yarn and black.  It looks so cool!

ballband8-1-07.jpg

The new KAL started today and it took me hardly anytime to knit the first 9 rows and I was still in a mood to knit, so we went to Michael’s and got some yarn, and an extra set of #7 needles, so I could try the ballband pattern!  It seems like nearly everyone has made at least one, except me!  LOL!  I was having a hard time reading the pattern and figuring out how the bricks show up, with mortar inbetween.  Well, I know how it all goes together now and it knits up fast!  I started about 9:30pm and got this far, by midnight!  The colors are so bright!  It’s sort of Green Bay Packer-colored, for this cheesehead!

The girls and I were all doing something with yarn tonight.  Emily was trying to figure out a pattern for a string bag and Sarah was practicing crochet stitches.  I think I’m ready for bed now, though.
