In the United States of America, we celebrate the
4th of July to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of
Independence on July 4, 1776! We were free from the rule and tyranny of
Britain at last. 4th of July is cause for much celebration with parades
and fireworks topping the list for most people. Sometimes, we can go see two
sets of fireworks if the displays are on the right nights! That is fun!
My city has a unique ritual after the parade.
Many different organizations make cardboard boats. They have to race each other
around a course set out in the water. They have many different heats, but
finally come up with a winner. What usually happens is that your boat starts
taking on water and you fall into the river. Some of the boats are amazingly watertight, though! It can be very funny watching the people trying to paddle
their awkward cardboard boats, though!
My youngest
daughter's favorite part of the day is seeing the different dog clubs in the
parade. One of the groups always marches the parade with her Chihuahuas! They
are Emily's favorite dog!
