St. Patrick's Day is when everyone pretends they are Irish, even if they aren't!! It honors an Irish saint from a long time ago! St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, but was actually born in Wales! He was sold into slavery at the age of 16 and spend the rest of his teen years in slavery. Eventually, he became a deacon, then a priest and finally a bishop. Legend has it that he plucked a shamrock from the ground and used it to explain the Holy Trinity. He also worked hard to convert the pagans to Christianity. He died March 17, 461 and that's why St. Patrick's day is on March 17th. On St. Patrick's day, it seems everyone pretends to be Irish!! People wear green clothes, drink green beer, and many cities stage parades! St. Patrick's Day -- Customs and History
