Our dog Honey has many
stories to tell. Or at least I imagine she would if she could talk!
There are times she seems almost human, even though I know she is a dog.
Guarding food in the kitchen
If you are browning ground beef on the stove, Honey usually lays
on the kitchen floor right next to the stove. She stays there the whole
time the meat is browning. Also, she likes to lay right below the cutting
board when we make cookies. I don't understand this, since cookie dough
never falls on the floor. Yeah, right! LOL! She gets a treat
every time.
Sneaking food off the kitchen table
A few months after we got her, she had a defining moment in our
house. One Sunday morning, we left leftover waffles on the table as we
rushed to get kids to Sunday school. Honey knew I was gone, but forgot
that Gary was still home. He was downstairs on the computer and heard her
creep up the stairs to the kitchen as my car pulled out of the driveway.
Soon he heard a fork and a plate hit the floor. He apparently ran
upstairs, pulled her out from under the kitchen table and said something to her
about getting food from the table! I have a feeling he really laid into
her because she has never touched food on the table since then. I guess she
wasn't a very smart criminal!
Parking herself next to the fridge
She likes hotdogs and expects one every evening. If you are
in the kitchen, she will park herself on the floor near where the door of the
refrigerator opens hoping for a treat. If you are down in the basement
watching tv or surfing the net, she will whine to get your attention to tell you
it's time for the hotdog! If you look at her, she will plead with her eyes
and wag her tail!
Kohler-Andrae Park
We don't dare say "park," "Kohler Andrae
Park," "walk," "leash" etc. in her hearing unless we
are really taking her for a walk at the park. It is her favorite place to
walk and you better be going there if she hears the words! I like going
there because it's a bit of nature just at the end of the city! It is also
one of the few places you can walk your dog on the beach! She likes to
wade in the water, but not go swimming!
Rawhide bones
Honey seems to think that rawhide bones can't be chewed on, until they have been
thrown and retrieved about 10-15 times! LOL! She loves running
across the room to get them and bring them back. After a while, she will
stop and get busy chewing. Sometimes she throws them in the air herself
and then pounces on them. She also won't chew on them unless we are all
home. I guess it's no fun by yourself!
